Jesse Marlow Just don't tell them, show them!

If you only see one show this year, this is the one! It's not to be missed, Lantern Printing and Jesse Marlow worked together to create 13 pieces, the shots were captured on colour neg film... yes film, using his trusty Leica scanned and printed on Epson Premuim Lustre Photo Paper using HDR Pigment inks. He is the winner of the 2011 International Street Photography AwardJesse Marlow's next solo exhibition at Anna Pappas Gallery is the final instalment of his series, Don't Just Tell Them, Show Them which is based on his book featuring the whole series to be published in late 2012. The influence for this body of work includes architecture, painting and film with inspiration coming from the Australian Modernist painter Jeffrey Smart to French film director Jacques Tati. Contrived photo shoots and intricately designed set-ups have never interested jesse marlow, rather it is the uncertainty of street photography that continues to stimulate him.

Opening Night  Wednesday 18 April, 6.30pm, and then from 19 April - 26 May, 2012.

Botanica 2012 Exhibition

The Masters & Moore. A spectacular exhibition of contemporary botanical art display in the historic Maiden Theatre and Moore Room in the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, including 10 Gold Medal winners from the Royal Horticultural Society Exhibitions in London.
Botanica is acknowledged as one of Australia’s leading botanical art exhibitions where many of the invited artists are highly regarded, both nationally and internationally.
All works are for sale (including a selection of unframed originals, prints and limited edition prints).
Friends of the Botanic Gardens is proud to have been involved since 1999 with the development and promotion of the work of professional and amateur botanical illustrators and artists, this Botanica being its twelfth exhibition.
In this exhibition there are 159 framed paintings selected from over 250 submitted. They represent the work of 86 artists from all states of Australia. The works were selected on the following basis: that they should accurately represent the form and botany of the chosen subject; they should adequately convey the characteristics of the species or variety; and they should be artistically pleasing, balanced and considered works of art. They must also be identified and named accurately according to standard botanical practices.
The final collection on display offered an outstanding opportunity to acquire works by talented emerging artists as well as those by artists with well-established national and international reputations. For some artists this was the first time they have exhibited at a major exhibition. We were delighted to be able to offer so many artists this opportunity to display their work.

RRB3 Heart of Darkness

The interdisciplinary practise of the Melbourne based artist known as RRB3 consists of paintings, drawings, abstractions, photography, object making and word pictures. With formative roots in street art - working at that time under another pseudonym - RRB3 was recognised during this early period as one of Melbourne's most innovative and experimental street art practitioners. More recently RRB3 has deployed an appropriative strategy with his visual arrangements now concerned with identity, imagined places and modes of living - 'the situation we find ourselves in.'

The Eternal Order In Nature

Australia boasts some of the best artists in botanical illustration and an exhibition which showcases both the old and the new is sorely overdue.  The Eternal Order in Nature: The Science of Botanical Illustration presented by the Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne will be timed to coincide with the XVIII International Botanical Congress at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in July 2011. The Eternal Order in Nature: The Science of Botanical Illustration will be a great opportunity to present not only 30 of the country’s leading talents in botanical illustration but will also display the diversity of Australian flora and landscape. Each of the artists will produce a series of small to large scale projects which will raise questions and challenge the nature of botanical illustration with its capacity to blur the boundaries between art and science.  This exhibition will provide an insight into the methods and processes of botanical illustration, present collaborative projects with botanists and offer the viewer an insight into understanding the skills required to produce such beautiful and accurate works, many of which will be for sale.

1ST PRIZE – INTERNATIONAL STREET PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD AND THE WINNER IS.....
 MR JESSE MARLOW

Lantern Printing would like to congratulate one of our favourite clients Jesse Marlow who won 1st Prize in the inaugural International Street Photography Prize. The award was part of the London Street Photograph Festival which takes place during the month of July, with over 1600 Entrants. Street photography is perhaps more easily defined as a method than a genre, it is documentary, portraiture and other genres, but the key elements of spontaneity, careful observation and an open mind ready to capture whatever appears in the viewfinder are essential.
